CARTRIDGE FILTER BOX DESIGN

WHERE DID WE START FROM?

We faced the challenge of redesigning an aspiration system for carbon fiber product processing. Our mission was to make this tool highly portable, easy to maintain, equipped with a safe air filtering system for personnel, and capable of returning clean air to the surrounding environment. Additionally, we aimed to use standardized commercial components to facilitate part replacement.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE SOLUTION?

Our solution involved a complete redesign of the system, considering the dimensional constraints and standardized sheet metal sizes. We made necessary modifications to the structural components and implemented an advanced filtering system. Air cleaning is now handled by four polyester cartridge filters. To ensure filter efficiency, we introduced single-valve tanks associated with each cartridge. These tanks provide compressed air at adjustable intervals, effectively removing accumulated dust on the filter’s outer surface, which is then collected in a lower drawer. In total, our filter box houses four cartridges and four cleaning tanks, each with a 7-liter capacity of compressed air and a maximum system pressure of 7 bar.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE OUTCOME?

Our work resulted in transforming a self-supporting structure into a wheeled system with an external frame suitable for lifting using appropriate bands with eyebolts. The filter box was designed with a removable drawer at the bottom, simplifying the removal of accumulated dust during the processing process. To ensure constant filter cleanliness monitoring, we included a plexiglass window on the control side. Contaminated air is drawn in by a paddle fan and conveyed to the operational area through coiled flexible tubes. We also provided the client with a comprehensive user manual and documentation related to risk analysis associated with the system’s use. With this redesign, we achieved a complete and innovative solution that meets the client’s requirements, ensuring safe processing and clean air in the surrounding environment.
